AMD C-50 APU dual cores 5W version

Yes you read it right , only 5W required for the Ontario APU to run like a charm on an Acer tablet, thats what AMD showed on a press event in Singapore leaked on Tech Report

 http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9vgJ1nwu_xA/TSOcpVgQFqI/AAAAAAAAFQ0/6tiSwQLfOJ8/s400/44291.png

Luckily, the folks at Softpedia seem to have figured it out. They say AMD managed to get its dual-core C-50 APU into a 5W power envelope by limiting the "number of frequencies and terminations" supported by the memory controller and by limiting I/O.

The result, apparently, is a 5W version of the AMD C-50 that still has two cores and, judging by this screenshot PC Watch grabbed, a 1GHz clock speed.

sandy bridge SATA performance flaw problem and solution officially detailed by Intel

This is a bad news for the current Intel sandy bridge motherboard owner , Intel reported today and officially after a lot of rumors confirm that the Intel 6 Series chipset, Cougar Point (H67/P67) include a chipset Design Error.

The error is a flaw which has been found in the SATA controller ,
and exactly on a fauly transistor inside the 3Gbps PLL clocking tree , the bug only affected to the 3Gbps ports and the 6Gbps ports should continue working as usual .

intel said that the SATA ports "degrade over time," so that will affect the performance of the SATA I/O controller over the time , so intel will start a recalls soon to fix the sleepy problem , if you have a sandy bridge Core i5 or Core i7 system you have to do a recall and contact intel or your OEM manufacturer before its too late .

Press:
As part of ongoing quality assurance, Intel Corporation has discovered a design issue in a recently released support chip, the Intel® 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point, and has implemented a silicon fix. In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel's latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue. The Sandy Bridge microprocessor is unaffected and no other products are affected by this issue.

The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April. Intel stands behind its products and is committed to product quality. For computer makers and other Intel customers that have bought potentially affected chipsets or systems, Intel will work with its OEM partners to accept the return of the affected chipsets, and plans to support modifications or replacements needed on motherboards or systems. The systems with the affected support chips have only been shipping since January 9th and the company believes that relatively few consumers are impacted by this issue. The only systems sold to an end customer potentially impacted are Second Generation Core i5 and Core i7 quad core based systems. Intel believes that consumers can continue to use their systems with confidence, while working with their computer manufacturer for a permanent solution. For further information consumers should contact Intel at www.intel.com on the support page or contact their OEM manufacturer.

For the first quarter of 2011, Intel expects this issue to reduce revenue by approximately $300 million as the company discontinues production of the current version of the chipset and begins manufacturing the new version. Full-year revenue is not expected to be materially affected by the issue. Total cost to repair and replace affected materials and systems in the market is estimated to be $700 million. Since this issue affected some of the chipset units shipped and produced in the fourth quarter of 2010, the company will take a charge against cost of goods sold, which is expected to reduce the fourth quarter gross margin percentage by approximately 4 percentage points from the previously reported 67.5 percent. The company will also take a charge in the first quarter of 2011which will lower the previously communicated gross margin percentage by 2 percentage points and the full-year gross margin percentage by one percentage point.

Make firefox 4 load 2x Faster with simple patch

A cool trick I found on bugzilla.mozilla.org that allow firefox 4 to load twice faster than usual on Windows systems using a patch coded with only 20 lines to trick Windows to load Firefox faster :
Taras Glek : Basic idea is that the sequential flag + bull**** read tricks windows into reading xul in Mb chunks instead of stupid 32k(or smaller) ones. Have to do it this way because there is no fadvise() on Windows(that I know of) A big sequential read cuts down on a lot of seeks.

How to voltage mod your GTX400 BIOS and physical mod

This is an easy how to tutorial from overclockers.com guys which allow you to create a modified BIOS file and increasing the GPU voltage to 1.212 V in four steps , also a physical modification in there :

"This short tutorial is based on my Gigabyte GTX470 (GV-N470OC-13I rev 1.0), it’s a reference card with a slightly higher GPU clock of 630 MHz. This type of BIOS modification is working on other reference GTX4xx cards like the GTX460/465/480 as well. A standard GTX470 has the max GPU voltage locked at 1.087 V, but there’s an easy way to unlock up to 1.212 V. Here are some steps on how to unlock the max voltage on a GTX4xx GPU."

Mobile phone shopping on the rise , opera sats showed up

With all the world's e-commerce in their hands, mobile shoppers truly know how to use it from their phones.

According to Opera's State of the Mobile Web Report, there was a clear increase in the number of visits to Amazon.com towards the end of the year, compared to earlier in 2010.

The countries showing the clearest trend among the Opera Mini users were United States and Germany. Shoppers in these countries doubled their number of page views to Amazon.com towards the end of the year, as compared to the start of 2010. This Christmas was truly the season of the mobile shopper.

The sharp increase of shopping over the last year increased even more at the end of the year, towards the traditional holiday shopping frenzy. This is especially visible in the daily number of visits to Amazon.com during the U.S. shopping weekend starting with "Black Friday" and ending with "Cyber Monday". In both monthly and daily numbers, the increase is significant and shows the willingness to shop and browse online stores even on the go.

What we say: "It is not hard to imagine the benefits of the full Web right at your fingertips when shopping in a crowded store," said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software "'Is this TV on sale really a good offer, or can I get a better deal online? What are people saying on the Web about the advantages of this computer model compared to the more expensive one?' Full access to the Web via Opera Mini--even under difficult conditions such as crowded cellular networks--puts power back in the hands of the consumers."

Nintendo 3DS release date and price leaked

On Nintendo 3DS news , Nintendo revealed the price for its next generation handheld console and the release date in the US , the price is set at $249.99 MSRP , and the release date is slated for March 27th.

The Europeans markets will receive the Nintendo 3DS two days earlier and the expected price tag is around 249.99EUR:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_9vgJ1nwu_xA/TTdmrdetPxI/AAAAAAAAFVU/9wtJUwWXoOY/s640/free-3DS.jpg

The company that changed the world of video games with touch-screen gaming in 2004 and motion-controlled gaming in 2006 now pioneers the next dimensional shift. On March 27, Nintendo introduces portable entertainment in 3D – without the need for special glasses. The Nintendo 3DS™ system will be available in either Cosmo Black or Aqua Blue, and will have a suggested retail price of $249.99. Pricing outside the United States will be established by the local markets, but offer similar consumer value.

"Nintendo 3DS is a category of one – the experience simply doesn't exist anywhere else," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "You have to see Nintendo 3DS to believe it. And it's like nothing you've ever seen before."

Nintendo 3DS includes two screens. The bottom touch screen makes use of a telescoping stylus that is stored in the unit itself. The top screen displays 3D visuals to the naked eye. Looking at the screen is like peering through a window into a world where characters and objects have true depth. The system also has a 3D Depth Slider that lets players select the level of 3D they enjoy the most. The 3D effect can be ratcheted up to the highest level, scaled back to a more moderate setting or even turned off completely, depending on the preference of the user.

In addition to the familiar + Control Pad and button controls found on previous Nintendo hand-helds, Nintendo 3DS now also includes a Circle Pad, which provides a full 360 degrees of direction, giving it the freedom and precision needed to play games in 3D worlds. It brings the same degree of responsiveness that gamers enjoyed when Nintendo introduced an analog control stick to navigate Mario™ through Super Mario 64™ on the Nintendo 64™ system.

A built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor can react to the motion and tilt of the system, so whether players are twisting their systems side to side or moving them up and down, their motion-compatible Nintendo 3DS games respond instantly. No other system includes so many tools for game developers to create new and fun experiences for players...

During the launch window (between the March 27 launch date and the E3 Expo in early June) more than 30 games will be available to Nintendo 3DS owners. These include Nintendo-created games like Pilotwings Resort™, which has players soaring acrobatically over iconic Wuhu Island; nintendogs™ + cats, a new version of the Nintendo DS classic with a feline enhancement; and Steel Diver™, a side-scrolling submarine adventure that gives the illusion that the player is peering into an aquarium. Other Nintendo 3DS games in the works include The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time™ 3D, Star Fox 64™ 3D, Kid Icarus™: Uprising and new installments in the Mario Kart™, Animal Crossing™ and Paper Mario™ series.

Nintendo 3DS also enjoys some of the strongest third-party support of any system launch. A partial list of titles coming soon to Nintendo 3DS includes Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked from Atlus; Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D from Capcom; Madden NFL Football from EA SPORTS; The Sims™ 3 from Electronic Arts; Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D from Konami; LEGO® Star Wars® III: The Clone Wars™ from LucasArts™; Ridge Racer® 3D and Dual Pen Sports™ from Namco Bandai Games America Inc.; Super Monkey Ball™ 3D, Thor™: God of Thunder and CRUSH™ 3D from SEGA; BUST-A-MOVE™ UNIVERSE from Square Enix, Inc.; Samurai Warriors® Chronicles and Dead or Alive® Dimensions from Tecmo Koei America Corp.; and Asphalt™ 3D, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Shadow Wars, Combat of Giants™: Dinosaurs 3D, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® 3D, Rayman® 3D and Rabbids® Travel in Time from Ubisoft.
