ATI HD 5870 VS GTX 285 All in one Reviews

Lets begin with the Specifications of each card .

ATI HD 5870 Specificatons :
 [ati_radeon_hd_5870_slide_specs.jpg]

HD 5870: +10% to +155% over GTX 285 (in 17 games, total 40 configurations), -25% to +95% compared to GTX 295* with AA/AF enabled (AA: 2x-8x, AF: 8x/16x, in 16 games)
HD 5870 CrossFireX: (2 GPU) +/-0% to +90% over GTX 295 SLI*, (3 GPU) +10% to +160% over GTX 295 SLI* (in 15 games)

HD 5850: -25% to +120% over GTX 285 (in 19 games, total 50 configurations)
HD 5870 info :
"The GPU will be very tiny. The die is supposedly 205 mm². Compare this to the RV770 being 256 mm², and the GTX 280 being a big 576 mm².
DirectX 11 is most certainly going to be there. DX11 is generally accepted to be happening in mid 2009, probably with the first DX11 games coming out in the third quarter of 2009. My prediction is going to be that DX11 will actually bring some significant changes, and will exist, unlike DX10, which came (and will leave) with hardly anyone noticing. (And no, you will not have to upgrade to Windows 7 for DX11 -- it'll be a download for Vista.)
ATI looks like it'll stick with GDDR5 memory, tied to a 512 bit memory interface. The source pins the memory bandwidth at 150-160 GB/s, which seems completely reasonable." (neoseeker.com)

GeForce GTX 285

Features and benefits:
The GeForce 200 Series is the tenth generation of Nvidia's GeForce graphics processing units. The series also represents the continuation of the company's unified shader architectureGeForce 8 Series and the GeForce 9 Series. Its primary competition came from ATI's Radeon HD 4000 series. introduced with the
The GeForce GTX 280 and GTX 260 are based on the same processor core. During the manufacturing process, GTX chips are binned and separated through defect testing of the core's logic functionality. Those that fail to meet the GTX 280 hardware specification are re-tested and binned as GTX 260 (which is specified with fewer stream processors, less ROPS and a narrower memory bus). In late 2008, in order to create more parity between the GTX 260 and the competing HD 4870, Nvidia re-released the GTX 260 with 216 stream processors up from 192. Effectively, there are two GTX 260 cards in production with non-trivial performance differences.

Lack of CUDA, lack of PhysX, ATI = junk. Wait till the GTX 300's come out, save your money.

haha, die hard Nvidia fan boys... ATI is clearly a better hard shown in these tests... even with Crysis being a Nvida bias game... ATI is the best so far. Accept it

    Great review :)

Almost makes me cry I downgraded to GTX 285, but ATI really are jerks when it comes to Linux support, otherwise I love them.
