Nvidia's 40nm Vs 20nm power consumption comparison

Nvidia is glad to show us some interesting difference between the new Kepler with 28nm TSMC process based and the previous generation Fermi which is based on the 40nm process technology in term of power consumption.

All of you know that everything that conduct power goes down in size must go down in power consumption and of course heat spreading, and that is one of the main features of the new Nvidia's  "Kepler" GPU, 28nm process from TSMC uses their first-generation high-K metal gate (HKMG) technology and second generation SiGe (Silicon Germanium) straining to achieve a high grade of performance using a very low power compared with the 40nm GPUs, bellow a benchmark comparison showing up to 200% boost of performance per watt compared with an 40nm GPU.

  1. This is indeed a wonderful way to illustrate the difference between 40nm and 28nm technology. 28nm is really more power-efficient.
