Eric Kuo, associate vice president for global sales, MSI Notebook, points out that the new generation X370 laptop packs AMD's new generation dual-core E-350 processor, endowing the machine with powerful processing and display capabilities, but more importantly, it only uses 18 watts of electricity. Couple that with MSI's own ECO Engine power-saving technology and the X370's battery supplies up to ten hours of power per charge.
New generation AMD processor, 10 hours on battery
New AMD APU architecture processor: The MSI X-Slim X370 is equipped with AMD's new generation (2011) dual core E-350 processor. In addition to packing the x86 architecture core, the APU (Accelerated Processing Units) processor sports the AMD Radeon HD 6310 discrete class display chip which supports DirectX 11, offering powerful processing and display performance on par with discrete graphics cards. 10 hours of battery power: The X370 not only offers the ultimate in high performance multimedia and processing capabilities, MSI's exclusive ECO engine power-saving technology lets you select from among five power management levels—Video Game, Film, Presentation, Word Processing, and Turbo Battery. In a statement, Nvidia explained that ‘in the web release driver of GeForce GTX 590, we have added some important enhancements to our overcurrent protection for overclocking. We recommend anyone doing overclocking or running stress apps to always use the latest web driver to get the fullest protection for your hardware.’
The company also stressed that the card is completely safe, saying that customers could 'rest assured that the GTX 590 operates reliably at default voltages.' You can see a video of the GTX 590 3GB failing below, although Nvidia claims that the damage was caused by a user overvolting the card's GPUs by as much as 1.2V; a huge increase over the default voltage of 0.91 to 0.96V.
However, Nvidia still recommends that overclockers play it safe with the voltage, even if they're using water-cooling. ‘Nvidia has worked with several water-cooling companies to develop waterblocks for GTX 590,' says the company, 'and these solutions will help provide additional margin for overclocking, but even in this case we recommend enthusiasts stay within 12.5-25mV of the default voltage in order to minimise risk.’
Colorful, the launch partner of NVIDIA in Asia, announces the latest high-end graphics card, GeForce GTX590. Based on a reference design, the card has scratch artworks on the stickers, which infuses the card some symbolic significances. GTX590 equips with 24 pieces of GDDR5 memory modules in total, 12 pieces on the front and the same quantity on the back, memory capacity is up to 3GB and the clock is set at 3414MHz. 2 pieces of GF110 chips are installed on the PCB and each of the chips has 5 phases VRM, the clock of these two GPUs are both set at 607MHz.
GTX590 has total of 1024 CUDA Cores, 128 Texture Units and ROP Units, the memory bandwidth is twice as GTX580, it¡¯s up to 384¡Á2bit. 3 DVI ports are provided and support up to three monitors with NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround, and this top card needs two 8-pin power connecting cable to ensure the power supply of the graphics card.
"Mass production of 4Gb LPDDR2 is a tremendous advancement for the mobile industry, one that will enable our OEM customers to move quickly in launching better differentiated high-performance mobile devices into the market." said Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. "Samsung will continue to take the initiative in accelerating growth of the market by providing high-performance, high-density green memory products as often and as early as possible."
Samsung developed the 4Gb LPDDR2 DRAM in December of last year and began mass producing it earlier this month. Compared to the previous 40nm-class* 2Gb LPDDR2 DRAM, the 30nm-class 4Gb LPDDR2 DRAM increases productivity by 60 percent.
The new chip also combines high performance and energy efficiency. It delivers a data transmission speed of 1,066Mbps, which is more than double that of today's MDDR, which operates between 333 to 400Mbps.
In addition, the chip enables a thinner, memory solution. When creating a 1GB (8Gb) LPDDR2 package with the previously highest density chips of 2Gb, four chips had to be stacked together. With the new 4Gb LPDDR2, stacking only two chips will achieve the same density, while providing a 20 percent package height reduction from 1.0mm to 0.8mm. It also consumes 25 percent less power.
Samsung plans to produce the 4Gb LPDDR2 chip based 1GB (8Gb) packages beginning this month, and plans to produce 2GB (16Gb) packages consisting of four 4Gb devices next month to accommodate a growing need for high-density mobile DRAM solutions.
The slot layout is identical of the two boards with three x16 PCI Express slots in a x16/dual x8 and x4 configuration, two x1 PCI Express slots and two PCI slots. However, MSI has dropped both of the USB 3.0 hubs of the P67A-GD80 and as such we're left with two rear and two front USB 3.0 ports, compared to six rear and four front for the P67A-GD80. On a more positive note MSI has moved one of the eSATA ports internally so there are now seven SATA ports and only one eSATA port which makes a lot more sense.
