How to install DirectX 11.1 on Windows 7 (Official)

Microsoft want to make things fairly after the reaction of Windows 7 users to the news few days ago noting that Windows 7 may not get DirectX 11.1 features such as native 3D support for any application made under DirectX 11.1 SDK, now Microsoft announce that Windows 7 users will get a "some" of Direct X 11.1 features for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Leaked on MSDN here are expected features on Windows 7 DirectX 11.1 KB 2670838:
  • "ID3D11Device1, ID2D1Factory1, IDWriteFactory1, IDXGIFactory2, IWICImagingFactory2, ID3DUserDefinedAnnotation and related APIs are available. Methods that depend on WDDM 1.2 drivers or new Windows Store app APIs are not supported.
  • Improved Direct3D 11 device interoperability via ID3DDeviceContextState, including the improved interop with Direct2D/DirectWrite.
  • D3D11_FEATURE_DATA_D3D9_OPTIONS feature detection.
  • In addition to the new Windows 8 WIC features, this update also fixes decoding of 96bpp floating-point TIFF images. "

All other features of DirectX 11.1 are for Windows 8 / Windows Server 2012 only.

Well, now to install this update and get these DirectX 11.1 features, all you have to do is to download the update package KB2670838 from this page, (you must be under Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) then restart your computer and there you go, you are using DirectX 11.1 features on Windows 7
